Gynecologic Problems

Pelvic pain

Pelvic pain can be very difficult to diagnose and treat, which often leads to women suffering for many years. Dr. Tang is one of the few experts in pelvic pain in the Philadelphia area – and is able to bring her knowledge about the many different causes of pelvic pain (muscles, nerves, endometriosis/adenomyosis, fibroids, bowel or bladder issues, vulvovaginal causes of pain) to give you the thorough evaluation and comprehensive treatment plan that can finally give you answers and relief!

Menstrual problems (irregular, heavy, painful periods, PMS or PMDD)
Period problems are extremely common, and there can be many different causes. It’s NOT normal to be suffering with extremely heavy, irregular, painful periods, or severe mood symptoms, and you do not need to just deal with it! Dr. Tang will do a thorough history, physical evaluation, including imaging studies and hormone studies if needed, to give you answers.
PCOS
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a very complex hormone condition, where people have a combination of menstrual irregularities, hormone-related symptoms like acne or excess facial / body hair, metabolic abnormalities like high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and pre-diabetes or diabetes, and sometimes infertility. Dr. Tang will do a thorough evaluation of your hormones, symptoms, ovaries, and general health, and help you create a plan that takes a holistic approach including nutrition, heart health, hormone balancing, fertility management, and overall wellness.
Infertility or concerns about fertility

If you’ve been struggling to conceive, Dr. Tang can help guide you on the basic fertility evaluation, and connect you with experts in reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI). She works closely with REI specialists for fertility patients who require surgery for conditions like fibroids, polyps, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, hydrosalpinges (swollen fallopian tubes), or uterine septa.

Perimenopause and menopause

Perimenopause or menopause can disrupt pretty much every aspect of your life – it can cause mood symptoms, hot flashes, night sweats, poor libido, vaginal dryness, pain with sex, bladder urgency or incontinence, UTIs, trouble sleeping, weight gain, loss of bone and muscle mass, and other disturbing issues. There’s rarely one magic treatment for every symptom of menopause, but hormone replacement therapy tends to be the most effective. Dr. Tang will discuss the entire range of treatment options, including different types of hormones and non-hormonal medications, herbal remedies like soy and black cohosh, nutrition, mindfulness, exercise, pelvic floor physical therapy, and treatment for bladder and pelvic floor issues.

Typical Ob/Gyn appointments are very short, sometimes only 10-15 minutes, and menopause concerns are usually far too complicated to be managed in just a few minutes. Dr. Tang takes the time to fully evaluate your concerns, your physical exam, and discusses the plusses and minuses of all your options, so you can come up with a plan that will help get your life back!
